ABOUT THE ROLE
The Chief CAD Designer - Mechanical for the company is responsible for leading the creation, control, and release of complex mechanical design documentation within a highly regulated engineering environment. The role requires advanced expertise in Creo, SolidWorks, GD&T, and Windchill PLM to deliver compliant, manufacturing-ready engineering drawings and 3D models. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to the Drawing Office, ensuring compliance with BS 8888, ISO standards, and configuration management requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop complex 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using Creo and SolidWorks.
  • Generate manufacturing-ready documentation including sheet metal, machined parts, welded structures, assemblies, BOMs, DXFs, and CNC-ready files.
  • Manage CAD data, document control, revision control, and Engineering Change Requests/Notices (ECR/ECN) within Windchill PLM.
  • Provide technical oversight, drawing approval, mentoring, and continuous improvement of CAD standards, templates, and design best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 12-15 years of experience in mechanical CAD design, detailing, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Creo and SolidWorks, including part modelling, assemblies, sheet metal, and drawing modules.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, BS 8888, ISO GPS standards, and Windchill PDM/PLM configuration management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience within defence, aerospace, precision engineering, or other highly regulated engineering industries.
  • Experience working within configuration-controlled environments, quality management systems, and safety-critical product development programs.
