You will be accountable for the safe and sustainable engineering, quality, cost, and schedule delivery of all work by the discipline, while also completing technical work as time permits. Key Accountabilities
Business Development Support
- Assist in business development activities by maintaining an updated personal profile and resume.
- Build positive working relationships with external parties like customers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Support proposals by developing the discipline execution strategy, estimating costs, writing proposal content, and presenting to customers.
- May lead all or part of a proposal.
Business Operations
- Communicate team resource loading and skill requirements to the Discipline Manager.
- Ensure project work coverage for vacations and unplanned absences.
- Mentor, train, and support delivery of training; assist in the employee performance review process.
- Facilitate coverage of activities when team members leave.
- Encourage compliance with requirements and processes, working to resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and customer issues.
- Ensure discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
Technical Competency
- Ensure team member adherence to accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Support standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates.
- Contribute to the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications.
- Use local/global standards to support technical excellence, and participate in checking and peer reviews.
Project Execution
- Participate in project execution strategy and planning; know the project scope, cost, and time requirements.
- Ensure the team meets expectations and coordinates with other disciplines for project success.
- Drive innovative solutions and technology advances.
- Manage project change and work with the Project Management Team on corrective actions for any issues or scope changes.
- Plan and monitor discipline quality activities and recommend improvements.
Project Deliverables
- Enable data gathering for engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc., and assist with recommendations for final documentation.
- Ensure technical issues are defined with alternate solutions and recommendations are made through official project documents.
- Review and authorize work done by direct reports.
Procurement Support
- Ensure relevant information is included in equipment/material specifications and requisitions.
- Facilitate bid clarifications, evaluations, and certification activities, reviewing and authorizing direct reports' work.
Site Support
- Seek input from knowledgeable sources for constructability reviews and ensure inclusion of requirements into designs.
- Resolve issues with site personnel and may create documentation supporting construction and operations.
- Provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turnover.
Qualifications, Accreditation, Training (Essential)
- 4 or 5 year technical degree in science or engineering; trained in leadership and project execution.
- Active license with a local engineering governing body where required by law.
Qualifications, Accreditation, Training (Desirable)
- Training in risk management or quality.
Job Specific Knowledge / Experience (Essential)
- Typically 15+ years of relevant discipline experience including 3+ years in project leadership.
- Strong background in discipline work and understanding of regulatory, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry practices.
- Experience in risk management, quality, procurement, or construction execution; adept at budgeting and cost control.
Job Specific Knowledge / Experience (Desirable)
- Expertise in NGL Processing, gas treatment processes, and sulphur handling is essential, including feasibility studies and simulations.
- Experience with licensor processes and contractor integration is essential.
- Managing large projects across multiple offices and excellent communication skills.
Decision Making
- Recommendations typically relate to project execution strategy. Technical design alternatives are referred to the project team to ensure adherence to standards. Operate within approved budget/schedule and seek project management approval for deviations.
Supervision Received
- Self-initiated interaction with supervisor and technical guidance. Work is reviewed for conformity with policy.
Supervision Authority
- Generally up to 10 direct reports; authority over performance evaluations impacting pay and recommendations regarding selection, training, and discipline of staff.
Communication
- Strong ability to inform and persuade on complex matters, demonstrating recognition of discipline mastery.
Systems & Tools (Essential)
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Competent in navigating intranet pages and organizing information according to prescribed formats.
Systems & Tools (Desirable)
- Proficient in Microsoft Access and Visio.
