We believe Engineering Managers should be skilled engineers who can troubleshoot technical issues and engage in presales discussions with customers. While contributing to project delivery, your primary role will involve shaping your team’s direction, focus, and delivery. We are dedicated to nurturing management skills in engineers who are interested in taking on leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of field engineers, from graduates to seniors, in areas of presales and professional services.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to customers and promote Canonical’s technologies.
- Engage in technical presales to assist the department in achieving its quarterly goals.
- Coach and mentor your team, providing ongoing career development feedback.
- Identify and measure team health indicators.
- Implement disciplined engineering processes and represent your team to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Collaborate actively within the leadership team and other departments.
What We Are Looking For:
- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.).
- Practical experience with Linux and networking.
- Experience in technical presales.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; a second language (Spanish or French) is preferred.
- A passion for developing and mentoring engineers, along with a strong organizational skill set to ensure timely and quality results.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time for company events, tech events, and customer meetings.
- A strong academic background, preferably with a university degree.
Work Conditions:
- Remote work with a home-based setup.
- Distributed work environment with scheduled in-person team sprints twice a year.
Language Requirements:
- Excellent proficiency in English is required. A second language such as Spanish or French is preferred.
