As a Cloud Field Engineering Manager, you will be expected to be an outstanding engineer who can troubleshoot technical issues and engage in technical presales conversations with customers. While contributing to project delivery, your primary focus will be on shaping the team's direction, focus, and delivery. Engineering Managers at Canonical are encouraged to develop management skills and train talented engineers to become effective managers.
The Field Engineering team designs both private and public cloud solutions tailored to customer requirements, using products such as Openstack, MicroCloud, and Kubernetes, among others. Managers actively participate in presales conversations to provide technical insights during the sales process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of field engineers in Presales and Professional Services.
- Solve customer problems by promoting Canonical technologies and serving as a trusted advisor.
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members.
- Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
- Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Collaborate within the leadership team on goals and projects.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies (Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.).
- Practical experience with Linux and networking.
- Background in technical presales.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Passion for developing and mentoring individuals.
- Organized, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results.
- Willing to travel up to 40% of the time for events and customer meetings.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in a second language, such as Spanish or French.
- Python knowledge.
- Experience with external partnerships and cross-team collaborations.
