About the Role
The Material Design Manager will oversee the colour, material and finish (CMF) that defines the aesthetic and tactile direction for the guest experience from ground to aircraft cabin. This role involves close collaboration with external consultants and internal stakeholders to articulate and capture the brand's look and feel through colour, material, pattern and texture. The manager will work closely with various teams, including Brand, Cabin Interiors, Product & Hospitality, and Cabin Crew & Service, to translate brand strategy into tangible CMF design opportunities at every touchpoint of the guest journey.

Key Responsibilities

Definition of Material Aesthetic and Tactile Direction
- Develop a strategy and holistic vision across multiple touchpoints.
- Lead material innovation initiatives by identifying opportunities and strategically developing them.

Conceptual Direction of Material Products
- Design CMF for onboard soft products and amenities.
- Provide CMF design support for new aircraft seat and cabin projects.
- Offer CMF design assistance in architectural environments.

Management of Product and Material Development
- Lead material and product development with internal partners and external suppliers, including new soft products or upgrades to existing materials within aircraft cabins or ground spaces.

Stakeholder Partnership
- Collaborate with project leads across multiple development teams to ensure alignment and progress.

Governing Documentation
- Create CMF guidelines for ground operations, aircraft, products, and services.

Material Asset Library
- Establish and manage an onsite material library containing all in-production CMF samples and specifications.
- Develop both a digital and physical database of industry-relevant materials.
- Maintain supplier relationships and coordinate their representation in the physical material library.
- Organize supplier visits for product demonstrations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Design (Industrial, Interior, Transportation, Textile, Graphic) with specialized experience in Colour, Material, Finish design.
- 7 years of experience in CMF design in a consultancy or in-house capacity, preferably within aviation, automotive, hospitality, or industries focused on guest experience.
- Knowledge of aviation material development.
- Expertise in storytelling and articulation of concepts.
- Strong interest in design and cultural trends.
- Excellent visual, written and verbal presentation skills.
- Strong design visualization skills.
- Proven ability to lead and command respect as a subject matter expert.
