Join exceptional people from around the world to solve some of the world's toughest energy challenges, make a real impact, and enjoy the adventure of building the future of industrial decarbonization together.

The company is looking for an experienced Conceptual Cost Engineer to join our team and take ownership of capital cost estimating for major industrial solar thermal projects from the earliest stages of development through to Final Investment Decision (FID).

This is more than a traditional estimating role. You will work at the intersection of engineering, project development, supply chain, construction and commercial decision-making – translating evolving technical concepts into credible, transparent and increasingly detailed project CAPEX estimates.

Your Impact
Your estimates will provide the cost confidence needed to turn early project concepts into sound investment decisions.
You'll help build the next generation of estimating at the company, combining engineering insight, cost data, recognised estimating tools, automation and AI to improve how we evaluate and develop projects.

What You'll Do

  • Own project capital cost estimates from initial opportunity assessment and Class 5/4 estimates through progressive development to the FID cost baseline.
  • Translate early process and engineering concepts into credible estimates when detailed engineering, quantities and supplier information are still incomplete.
  • Develop parametric, factored, quantity-based and benchmark estimates appropriate to each project's maturity.
  • Build complete CAPEX estimates covering equipment, materials, fabrication, construction, installation, logistics, engineering, project services, commissioning and indirect costs.
  • Establish clear Basis of Estimate documentation covering methodology, assumptions, exclusions, allowances, escalation, contingency, uncertainty and risk.
  • Work with process and engineering teams to understand how process configuration, equipment sizing, quantities and technical choices affect project cost.
  • Support techno-economic evaluation of alternative project concepts and identify opportunities for CAPEX optimisation.
  • Develop location-specific assumptions for labour rates and productivity, construction methods, logistics, duties, mobilisation and other regional cost factors.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Technical Sourcing to incorporate current equipment, material, supplier and commodity intelligence.
  • Benchmark estimates against historical the company projects, market data and comparable projects, maintaining traceability between engineering changes and cost impacts.

Who You Are
You're analytically rigorous, technically curious and commercially aware. You're comfortable developing useful estimates when information is incomplete, making assumptions explicit and explaining uncertainty clearly.
You can challenge engineering and project assumptions constructively while building strong cross-functional relationships, and you're motivated to improve the estimating discipline through better data, tools and technology.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Cost Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Typically 7–12+ years of relevant experience in capital project estimating, cost engineering or project controls.
  • Strong experience developing conceptual and early-stage CAPEX estimates for industrial, energy, infrastructure or EPC/EPCM projects.
  • Experience progressing estimates through increasing engineering maturity towards FID or equivalent investment approval.
  • Good understanding of Class 4 and Class 5 estimating methodologies and preferably recognised AACE recommended practices.
  • Practical understanding of equipment, materials, construction methods, labour productivity, logistics, project indirects and execution costs.
  • Experience working across different countries or regions and understanding how location and execution strategy influence project economics.
  • Strong Excel and quantitative modelling capability, ideally with experience of recognised capital cost estimating software or databases.
  • An interest in data, digitalisation, automation and AI and how these technologies can improve traditional capital project estimating.
  • Experience in renewable energy, process plants, industrial infrastructure or major EPC projects would be particularly relevant. Direct solar thermal experience is not essential.

What You'll Find at the company

  • Meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to make an impact from day one.
  • Exceptional colleagues from diverse disciplines who challenge, support, and learn from each other.
  • Complex challenges that require curiosity, collaboration, and innovation.
  • An international team united by a shared purpose and ambitious goals.
  • The adventure of helping build the future of industrial decarbonization.

We value inclusion and foster a culture of belonging, welcoming team members of all backgrounds, regardless of gender, gender identity, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic. We have zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, bullying, or retaliation.
