Configuration Manager

The Configuration Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and improving Configuration Management processes across the product lifecycle. The role ensures the integrity, traceability, control, and auditability of product data, including requirements, CAD models, drawings, specifications, software, Bills of Materials, and technical documentation. The position acts as the configuration governance focal point across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Programme Management, ensuring compliance with contractual, customer, regulatory, and quality requirements within a highly regulated Aerospace and Defence environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Developing and maintaining Configuration Management policies, procedures, work instructions, and governance frameworks.
• Establishing, controlling, and maintaining product baselines throughout development, production, delivery, and in-service support.
• Leading Configuration Control Boards and Change Review Boards, ensuring decisions are documented, approved, implemented, and traceable.
• Controlling product structures, part numbering, revisions, lifecycle states, effectivities, and release processes.
• Ensuring alignment between requirements, CAD data, drawings, specifications, E-BOMs, M-BOMs, software, and supporting documentation.
• Managing Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Notices from initiation through review, approval, implementation, and closure.
• Coordinating configuration changes across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Programme teams.
• Governing Windchill or Teamcenter workflows, product structures, CAD documents, lifecycle states, and release processes.
• Ensuring accurate transfer and synchronization of released engineering data between PLM and SAP, including part masters, BOMs, revisions, and effectivities.
• Managing E-BOM governance and transformation into M-BOM structures, supporting production readiness and first article activities.
• Maintaining Configuration Status Accounting records and providing accurate configuration reporting.
• Planning and conducting Functional and Physical Configuration Audits, ensuring corrective actions are closed.
• Supporting internal, customer, regulatory, and external quality audits.
• Ensuring compliance with BS 8888, ISO 9001, ISO 10007, AS9100, customer requirements, and applicable Aerospace and Defence standards.
• Leading, coaching, and developing Configuration Officers and Specialists.
• Promoting best practices and driving continuous improvement across PLM, ERP, document control, and change management.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Configuration Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of Configuration Management experience within Aerospace, Defence, or another highly regulated industry.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience.
• Strong practical experience with Windchill or Teamcenter, SAP ERP, ECR/ECN processes, Configuration Status Accounting, E-BOM and M-BOM management, PLM, document control, and engineering drawing control.
