Data Center Technician

About the Role As a Data Center Technician (DCT), you will be responsible for staging, setting up, and performing hardware deployments while also troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment issues. This role allows you to deepen your understanding of Data Center standard processes and procedures, develop mentoring skills, and familiarize yourself with security and data management protocols, thereby accelerating your career growth. You will play a crucial role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for the company's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the company's Azure platform. Your role will contribute to a large team that supports services for over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses across 90 countries worldwide. Responsibilities - Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifying issues and replacing faulty components with minimal disruption to customers and business operations. - Conduct post-execution quality checks to verify proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to safety protocols and deployment standards. - Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes, following standard procedures with minimal guidance. - Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate data center operations management units, Technician Leads, and engineering specialists. - Assist and guide other technicians on challenging or complex tasks. - Complete required training aligned with the role and workload, observing experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience. - Foster a positive team environment by sharing information, contributing to team meetings, asking questions, and staying informed about others' work. - Take pride and accountability for service quality, completeness, and user experience while embodying the company culture and values. Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components, along with experience supporting IT equipment or related technology. Background Check Requirements You must meet the company's, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for this role, which include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: - Company Cloud Background Check: Required to pass this background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: - Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology. - Relevant certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
