Position

The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across the organization. This role involves setting policies and standards for data management, collaborating with various departments to enforce best practices, and ensuring the proper use of data to support business objectives. The Data Governance Specialist will also monitor data accuracy, mitigate risks associated with data misuse, and help establish a data-driven culture, ultimately ensuring that data is an asset for informed decision-making.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a Data Governance Strategy.
  • Manage Data Quality and establish a network of data stewards responsible for maintaining high-quality data and adhering to governance protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance policies and industry standards (GDPR, DAMA, etc.).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and develop training programs to increase awareness of data governance principles.
  • Prepare reports on data governance activities, including metrics on data quality and compliance, for senior management.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with data misuse, poor quality, or non-compliance with governance frameworks.

Technical Skillset:

  • Experience with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, or Talend; proficiency in using data management tools like SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Understanding of tools and processes for data profiling, data cleansing, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) solutions.
  • Familiarity with tools and frameworks that support data privacy and security measures.
  • Understanding of data modeling, database structures (e.g., SQL, NoSQL), and cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field; a master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, DAMA) is a plus.
  • Experience: 10+ years in data management or governance, with at least 4 years in a managerial role.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in industries with complex data environments such as finance, healthcare, or telecommunications preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) and their implications for data governance frameworks.
