Data Management Director

About the Role
The job holder is responsible for managing the proper implementation of the data management strategy, directing the development and updating of policies and procedures, assessing and approving suggested improvement plans, and following up on implementation to secure effective data management.

Job Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

• Contribute to the development of Data Management Office business plan ensuring alignment with the company strategy.
• Develop the operational plan for Data Management in line with Data Management Office business plan and Risk & Analytics strategic plan.
• Implement plans and provide input to enable achievement of Data Management goals that support the company’s overall strategic plans.

Budget Management

• Discuss Data Management budgeting requirements with top management and provide input to the budgeting process.
• Ensure effective utilization of Data Management budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
• Investigate and propose implementing initiatives that result in positive financial impact for Data Management and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Data Management Planning

• Develop Data Management strategy and related plans, initiatives, and programs in line with best practices and the company’s strategic direction, rules, and regulations.
• Promote awareness in data protection, automation, and storage across the organization and build communication channels to ensure proper information sharing regarding data-related laws, rules, and regulations.
• Direct the development of data management policies, standards, and procedures ensuring alignment with the company’s overall strategy.
• Lead development of programs managing metadata and information assets to ensure integrity and quality.
• Manage the development of roles, responsibilities, and rules related to data owners to facilitate traceability of data breaches.

Data Management Oversight

• Follow up on the implementation of data management plans and review identified data issues to intervene as needed for resolution.
• Recommend improvement areas and guide the development of new data management projects to optimize the use of data within the bounds of policies and guidelines.
• Monitor proper implementation of data management projects to ensure accurate and prompt delivery of services requested by the company’s functions.
• Oversee the implementation of improvement action plans to minimize new data-related issues.
• Review developed reports and data assessments to keep track of the company’s compliance levels with data standards and policies.

People Management

• Participate in the identification and recruitment of key talent.
• Guide, mentor, and support direct reports to execute duties according to set policies and processes.
• Develop individual performance objectives, provide necessary support, evaluate/appraise team, and provide regular feedback on performance.
• Establish a high-performance working environment and promote the company values.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent is required.
• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent is preferred.

Experience

• An optimal of 8 years of relevant experience, with a preferred 3 years of experience at the managerial level.
