The Data Protection Officer (DPO) will report directly to the Senior Management of the relevant department. Responsibilities include advising on the Bank’s compliance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and local data protection laws, monitoring adherence to GDPR standards, and acting as a point of contact with supervisory authorities and data subjects. The DPO will create policies to enforce compliance and provide ongoing data protection training to employees, enhancing awareness of data protection measures across the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Serve as a point of contact for staff and supervisory authorities, ensuring data protection requirements are understood and adopted in a timely manner.
  2. Identify, evaluate, and ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the Bank’s data processing activities.
  3. Provide advice on conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  4. Monitor data management procedures for compliance.
  5. Participate in meetings to ensure privacy by design at all levels.
  6. Maintain records of data processing operations.
  7. Address all queries from data subjects within legal timeframes.
  8. Liaise with organizations and vendors processing data on behalf of the Bank.
  9. Write and update guides on data protection policies.
  10. Perform audits and adapt policies to comply with new regulations.
  11. Provide consultation on privacy breaches.
  12. Deliver training on data protection compliance to all employees.

Specialist Skills / Technical Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of data protection rules and regulations in developed markets.
  • Expertise in data protection capable of advising senior management in a regional or global institution.
  • Ability to understand, create, and run data protection processes across all ADIB Group Companies.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective presentation skills and training delivery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project management and delivery skills.

Previous Relevant Experience:

  • 10-12 years of experience in a data protection role within a regional or global company.
  • Experience in a similar role for a financial institution is a distinct advantage.
