We are seeking a highly skilled Deployment Engineer to lead the rollout and lifecycle management of cutting-edge smart home and robotics technology. This is a high-impact role focused on scalability, reproducibility, and reliability in smart home environments.
You will deploy infrastructure across complex multi-floor residential buildings, gyms, and spas, ensuring that while systems are scalable across hundreds of units, each tenant enjoys a perfectly configured experience. Your work will involve making technology “plug-and-play” at scale, allowing for comprehensive monitoring, maintainability, and self-reporting of device health.

Key Responsibilities

Scalable Infrastructure Deployment
- Design and execute the deployment of the server stack across multi-floor residential buildings and commercial facilities.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure deployments are reproducible, consistent, and easily updated.
- Implement per-tenant isolation, architecting configuration logic to provide each residential unit with a secure, private instance of the smart home “brain.”

Configuration & Orchestration
- Automate the configuration of hundreds of IoT devices, sensors, and robotic units during onboarding.
- Manage complex networking requirements for large-scale buildings to ensure stable connectivity between local servers, cloud backends, and end-user devices.
- Develop “Zero-Touch” provisioning workflows to minimize manual intervention during site installations.

Telemetry & Rapid Response
- Build and maintain a high-level telemetry dashboard to monitor the health of all deployed systems in real time.
- Implement automated alerting systems to detect hardware failures, network drops, or logic errors before they affect customers.
- Develop rapid-response protocols to troubleshoot and resolve issues remotely across distributed locations.

Automated Maintenance & Lifecycle Management
- Create automated maintenance reporting systems to track the lifecycle of consumables (e.g. smart bulbs, filters, batteries).
- Develop proactive maintenance alerts for facility managers regarding nearing end-of-life consumables.
- Ensure systems receive regular, automated over-the-air updates and security patches.
Technical Requirements
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible or Pulumi (Expert)
- Containerisation: Docker, Kubernetes (K3s/MicroK8s for edge deployment)
- Networking: VLAN Tagging, VPNs (WireGuard/Tailscale), Subnetting, Wi-Fi 6 Architecture
- Scripting & Automation: Python (Expert), Bash, Go
- IoT Protocols: MQTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, ESPHome
- Monitoring & Logging: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack or InfluxDB
- Cloud & Edge: AWS/Azure (backend); Proxmox or similar for local edge compute
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to manage multi-tenant architecture environments for different users on shared infrastructure.
- History of deploying IoT or smart home technology in commercial real estate or large residential complexes.
- A passion for automation and reliability; a mindset focused on building systems that self-heal.
- Familiarity with physical devices and their interactions with network protocols.
