Position

The newly established Developer Relations team aims to engage directly with open-source communities and developer-centric organizations, communicating the company's vision and products to enhance open-source development experiences. The role of Developer Relations Engineer combines technical expertise, strategy, and communication skills, with a deep empathy for developers. This position requires practical engineering skills, as well as the ability to collaborate across various organizational boundaries. Developer Relations Engineers are problem-solvers and innovators, keen on understanding needs and adapting tools accordingly. They stay updated on tech trends and provide insights while promoting innovation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in team product meetings and contributing insights.
  • Engaging with developer community members through various platforms (IRC, social media, forums, meet-ups).
  • Collaborating with colleagues to establish common approaches and address technical problems.
  • Contributing to technical documentation to meet developers' needs.
  • Creating technical articles, presentations, or workshops.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in the developer experience.
  • Presenting at conferences and technical events.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a programmer or developer with a passion for open-source software.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, including software packaging with Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, and containers.
  • Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem.
  • Contributions to open-source communities, software, and documentation.
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and empathetically with diverse perspectives.
  • Trust-building and relationship management skills.
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company and partner events.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Previous experience in a developer advocacy or community role.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu and Canonical's product ecosystem.
