A Developer Relations Engineer is a technical expert, strategist, and communicator with deep empathy for developers. This role combines practical engineering skills with diplomacy across organizational boundaries. This position is suited for individuals who are problem solvers and inventors, eager to find better ways to enhance developer experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in team product meetings, contributing insights and expertise.
  • Maintain conversations with community members across various platforms (IRC, social media, forums, meet-ups).
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different teams to address identified technical problems.
  • Contribute to technical documentation to meet developer users' needs.
  • Produce technical articles, presentations, or workshops.
  • Identify new opportunities for improving the developer experience.
  • Present at conferences, meetups, or technical events.

Requirements:

  • Strong programming background with a passion for open-source software.
  • Experience with real-world challenges in developing and deploying software using Linux.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, PIP, containers).
  • Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem.
  • Contribution to open-source communities, software, and documentation.
  • Engaging speaker with the ability to build trust and relationships.
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company events.

Additional Skills:

  • Previous experience in a developer advocacy or community role.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu and Canonical’s ecosystem of products.
