The Director of Data Science (ML) will lead Careem's central Machine Learning and Data Science team, consisting of over 30 members. This role focuses on defining and executing the AI strategy to enhance user experiences and optimize operational efficiency. You will be instrumental in ensuring AI is a core competitive advantage for Careem.
Work Conditions:
Full-time, 4 days a week in office & 1 day from home, with the option to work remotely from any country in the world for 30 days a year. Unlimited vacation days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute a long-term vision for Data Science and Machine Learning across all verticals, identifying high-impact AI opportunities that drive measurable business results.
- Team Leadership & Development: Build and mentor a diverse team of ML engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Technical & Operational Excellence: Oversee the development and deployment of robust ML systems, ensuring high standards of performance and efficiency.
- Product Impact & Delivery: Collaborate with various business units to integrate ML into user experiences, establishing metrics to evaluate AI-driven initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Represent Data Science leadership at strategic forums, aligning AI initiatives with company objectives and promoting collaboration across departments.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Data Science, ML, or Applied AI, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
- Proven success in developing large-scale ML systems for consumer platforms.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with a demonstrated passion for product-oriented AI.
