Director, Research Translation and New Ventures

The company seeks to appoint a Director of Research Translation and New Ventures, reporting to the Senior Research Scientist and Vice Provost of Research Translation and Entrepreneurship. This role supports the company's academic strategy by transforming ideas into practical applications and facilitating the commercialization of research outputs to benefit society. The Director will build technology portfolios through collaboration with faculty members and will be responsible for the commercialization and translation of research outputs, intellectual property, and facilitating development and collaboration opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with faculty, researchers, and students to develop commercially viable ideas and deal flows.
• Create go-to-market strategies and ensure compliance with university policies.
• Identify opportunities for creating university startups and advise entrepreneurs.
• Lead innovation initiatives and events to promote the company as a leader in the innovation ecosystem in Abu Dhabi and UAE.
• Engage with external companies to attract research funding.
• Maintain a portfolio of ideas, intellectual property, and new ventures.
• Advise faculty on intellectual property matters and ensure compliance with university IP policy.
• Support entrepreneurship training for faculty, researchers, and students.

Qualifications:
Required Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic field, preferably in Science or Engineering.

Preferred Education:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field.

Required Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in research commercialization, including a background in intellectual property.
• Proven track record in generating deal flow, licensing, and creating startups in a university setting.
• Extensive experience in assessing intellectual property, inventions, and new ventures.
• Mentoring experience for entrepreneurs and faculty in developing commercialization roadmaps.
• Knowledge in areas such as electric engineering, computer science, and AI, with experience in commercializing software-based technologies.
• Strong negotiation skills and understanding of IP licensing and commercialization terms.
