Position

The Director of Data Privacy & Protection will support the development and implementation of comprehensive privacy, data protection, AI, and IP governance frameworks across the organization. This role is critical in driving pragmatic, cost-effective compliance solutions and ensuring that services, products, and projects meet regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will challenge existing processes and structures to create efficient, modern compliance approaches that enable business innovation within appropriate risk parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactive Leadership: Champion enterprise-wide privacy, data protection, AI, and IP compliance initiatives, balancing regulatory requirements with business objectives.
  • Product & Service Compliance: Ensure all services, products, and projects incorporate privacy-by-design principles and meet applicable data protection and AI governance requirements from inception through deployment.
  • Process Innovation: Identify and improve outdated compliance processes, designing solutions that streamline operations while maintaining regulatory standards.
  • Independent Execution: Drive initiatives autonomously, taking ownership of complex compliance challenges and delivering practical solutions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with UAE Data Protection Law, GDPR, and other applicable privacy regulations.
  • AI Governance: Continuously improve AI governance frameworks, ensuring ethical AI principles, risk assessment protocols, and compliance mechanisms are in place.
  • IP and Innovation: Improve IP and Innovation policies and procedures, including trademark management and IP protection.
  • Pragmatic Problem-Solving: Design cost-effective compliance solutions that minimize business disruption.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various departments to embed privacy and AI compliance into operations and initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate privacy and AI-related risks.
  • Incident Response: Lead privacy incident and data breach response efforts.
  • Regulatory Support: Assist in preparing submissions and technical documentation for data protection authorities.
  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs tailored to different organizational levels.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee privacy, AI, and IP compliance aspects of third-party relationships.
  • Innovation Enablement: Provide legal guidance on compliant deployment of emerging technologies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in law (LLB) and Bar admission.
  • Advanced degrees (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, AI certifications) preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in privacy/data protection law and AI compliance, with proven independent work capabilities and process improvement experience.
  • At least 8 years for Director-level candidates, with experience in the telecom/technology industry and a law firm/in-house background focusing on privacy, AI, and IP.

Language Requirements: Proficiency in English is required.
