Distributed Systems Architect: Bare-Metal and High-Scale

About the Job:
In this role, you will be responsible for creating the architectural blueprints for the company’s on-premises open-source infrastructure. Your focus will be on designing clustering, replication, and failover topologies across messaging, streaming, and database layers, which our DevOps team will automate at scale for client deployments. This hands-on architecture position is critical, as your work will directly impact the resilience of air-gapped client environments against hardware failures at a petabyte scale.

What You’ll Do:

• Open-Source Infrastructure Mapping

  • Map the company’s Azure PaaS components to open-source equivalents.
  • Produce assessments documenting feature gaps and migration risks.
  • Validate client hardware specifications against air-gap security requirements prior to deployments.

• Cluster and Topology Design

  • Design multi-node clustering, replication, and resilience protocols for hardware/network failures.
  • Architect tuning for stateful workloads including configuration strategies.

• Linux and Hardware Optimization

  • Tune Linux kernel parameters and optimize hardware for petabyte-scale write workloads.
  • Author reproducible benchmarks for configuration validation before production rollout.

• Blueprints and DevOps Enablement

  • Deliver configuration blueprints and runbooks for automation teams.
  • Maintain a library of reference architectures for different infrastructure topologies.
  • Conduct reviews of client hardware specifications with go/no-go assessments.

What You’ll Bring:

• 10+ years of experience in architecting and operating distributed infrastructure at TB to PB scale.
• Expert-level skills in Kafka or Redpanda clustering.
• Deep Linux systems engineering knowledge.
• Proven experience deploying highly available database clusters without cloud load balancers.
• Ability to produce implementation-ready blueprints and runbooks for DevOps teams.
