We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services activities, assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery.

Our Internet of Things mission is to enable companies to create fleets of secure connected devices. Canonical provides the base Ubuntu OS and kernel, including secure update and management mechanisms. Our customers develop mission-critical control systems, gateways, and appliances that require stringent quality and security standards.

The Field Engineers are thought leaders addressing challenging problems, with a hands-on approach to embedded Linux strategy and delivery. They are dedicated to helping customers achieve ambitious technical and business objectives through Canonical's open-source approach. Moreover, they support the development of their colleagues, fostering technical depth and customer-awareness for continual improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a diverse team of Field engineers across various experience levels.
  • Solve customer problems by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Work remotely in a major time zone and manage team health indicators.
  • Coach and mentor the team, providing career development feedback.
  • Represent the team and product to stakeholders and partners.
  • Develop and advocate for exceptional engineering practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on objectives and projects.
  • Collaborate with other leaders as part of the leadership team.

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic record with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience with embedded Linux (Yocto or similar) and Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience in managing a small team and engaging with customers.
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Result-oriented with a commitment to performance and communication of the technology's business benefits.
  • Desirable traits include experience with RTOS, proficiency in additional languages, and experience working in a remote-first company.
