Position

In this role, you will work across the full Linux stack from kernel through GUI to optimise Ubuntu, the world's most widely used Linux desktop and server, for the latest silicon. This fast-paced, problem-solving position is both challenging and exciting. We are looking for a resourceful and articulate candidate who can deliver a wide variety of solutions across PC and IoT technologies. You will collaborate with specialist engineers from major silicon companies to integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements for upcoming hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the best Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms.
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver an optimised Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Take a holistic approach to the Ubuntu experience on partner platforms, providing inputs on technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics.
  • Act as a technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge.
  • Assist customers in integrating their applications, SDKs, and building device OS images while optimising applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A passion for technology and collaboration with brilliant minds.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto).
  • Familiarity with open source communities and licenses.
  • Proficiency in C and C++.
  • Ability to work in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation.

Additional Skills That May Be Beneficial:

  • Experience with graphics stacks.
  • Good understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST).
  • Basic understanding of security best practices in IoT or server environments.
  • Good communication skills, ideally with public speaking experience.
  • IoT / Embedded experience, from board and SoC, BMCs, bootloaders, and firmware to OS, apps, and services.
  • Experience with Docker/OCI containers/K8s.
