The Protection Relay Programming & Testing Engineer will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of protection systems, focusing on MV and LV protection systems. This includes relay programming, testing, and commissioning of protection/control systems to ensure functionality and reliability in industrial environments.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement protection relay programming, configuration, and testing.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting for MV and LV protection systems, ensuring robust operation.
- Conduct secondary injection testing, functional testing, trip testing, interlock verification, and end-to-end protection testing.
- Lead FAT/SAT activities and site testing for commissioning and final validation.
- Prepare and review relay setting files, test procedures, test reports, commissioning reports, and documentation related to protection systems.
- Verify relay settings against approved protection coordination studies.
- Integrate protection relays with PLC, RTU, SCADA, EPMS/BMS, and other supervisory control systems.
- Troubleshoot communication issues and ensure effective communication mapping across various systems, using protocols such as Modbus and IEC 61850.
Qualification & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering.
- 7–12 years of relevant experience in protection relay programming, testing, commissioning, and protection/control systems.
- Extensive experience with MV switchgear, control and relay panels, and electrical protection systems.
Core Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in protection relay programming and troubleshooting, with strong experience in relays from ABB, Siemens, and Schneider Electric.
- Knowledge of platforms such as ABB Relion, Siemens SIPROTEC, Schneider Easergy/SEPAM, or equivalent.
- Familiar with protection schemes including overcurrent, earth fault, directional protection, and more.
- Hands-on experience with OMICRON or equivalent relay test equipment is preferred.
- Strong grounding in secondary injection testing, functional testing, and validation of protection systems.
Communication & Networking Expertise
- Knowledgeable in industrial communication networks related to MV/LV protection and control systems.
- Practical knowledge of communication protocols including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Profinet, IEC 61850, and Industrial Ethernet.
- Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting communication mapping, alarms, commands, and protection signals.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Comprehensive understanding of MV protection systems, control and relay panels, and industrial communication protocols.
- Proven ability to handle relay programming, protection setting implementation, and logic development independently.
- Experience in MV switchgear manufacturing, system integration, protection engineering, testing, and commissioning will be strongly preferred.
