The company is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets, known for our platform, Ubuntu. This role involves overseeing the development and operations of internal software products that serve the company's business and the popular security solution, Livepatch. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in delivering full-stack software services and adhering to high engineering quality standards.
As the Engineering Director, you will lead the Commercial Systems unit, consisting of three engineering teams that collaborate closely with other engineering and business teams. Your responsibilities will include managing:
- Billing Team: Develops a Golang service for standardized, scalable billing capabilities.
- Contracts Team: Develops a Golang service that serves as the single source of truth for all contracts, integrating with various business systems.
- Livepatch Team: Focuses on delivering Linux kernel patches to enhance security by patching vulnerabilities during runtime.
Responsibilities:
- Lead multiple teams of engineers, from graduates to senior staff.
- Develop engineering managers and maintain the company's culture in their teams.
- Promote engineering best practices and processes.
- Implement performance management with clear goals and objectives.
- Measure and improve team health and performance.
- Be accountable for the product development roadmaps.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and product users.
- Hire and expand your teams with great talent.
Requirements:
- Exceptional academic track record and an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative path.
- Proven ability to drive multiple software engineering teams to outstanding results.
- Engineering experience in at least one of the following: Golang, Python, Java, or distributed integrations.
- Excellent professional written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.
- Result-oriented with a strong personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience in performance engineering and DevOps/SRE.
- Familiarity with accounting, sales, or other business roles.
Work Conditions:
- Fully remote role based in the EMEA region.
