Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As a technical management role, you will lead a team that develops Python and Golang micro-services for our global software distribution engine, known as the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces.

This role involves transforming the experience users have with open source software by expanding the range of software delivered through our system. You will foster an environment for clean APIs and aim for high-quality, regular software releases aligned with agile methodologies.

As an Engineering Manager, your responsibilities include running an effective team, developing your colleagues, and ensuring a focused and productive environment. You will engage in code reviews, architectural leadership, and promote healthy engineering practices. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious yet achievable goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a remote team of engineers and manage expectations with stakeholders.
  • Build clean web service APIs using Python (and optionally Golang).
  • Mentor and develop team members, focusing on their professional growth.
  • Engage actively with other teams and the open-source community.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience leading modern, agile software development practices.
  • Proven ability to cultivate a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Strong software development experience in Python (Golang experience is a plus).
  • Effective communication skills and practical experience with Linux system administration.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for team events.

Language Requirements:
Fluency in English is essential.
