Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in critical enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team that develops Python and Golang microservices that power our global software distribution engine, known to the world as the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces.
In this technical management role, you will oversee a team dedicated to enhancing software distribution capabilities. Your main responsibility is to lead an effective team and foster the growth of the engineers you manage, ensuring they produce high-quality work and find satisfaction in their roles. You will collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects to produce an ambitious engineering roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a remote team of engineers, focusing on talent development through coaching and mentoring.
  • Build clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, primarily using Python (and optionally Golang).
  • Engage with various teams at Canonical and the open-source community.
  • Contribute to healthy engineering practices and maintain high team performance.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in leading modern, agile software development.
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Skilled in software development, preferably with Python, and experience in Golang is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Practical experience with Linux system administration.

Travel Requirement:
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
