This technical management role involves leading a team that develops Python and Golang micro-services for our global software distribution engine, known as Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces. You will play a pivotal role in transforming how users experience open source software by expanding the software delivery range through this system.

As an Engineering Manager, your main responsibility will be to run an effective team, fostering growth and productivity. You will be involved in developing and reviewing code, ensuring the team is focused and unblocked, and fostering a positive team culture. Collaboration with other Engineering Managers, product managers, and architects will be crucial to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious and achievable goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a remote team of engineers within your time zone.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate actively as part of the leadership team.
  • Build clean web service APIs to support CLI and web frontend clients using Python and optionally Golang.
  • Engage with various teams within Canonical and the open-source community.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience in leading modern, agile software development practices.
  • Ability to form a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.
  • A track record of mentoring, developing, and growing team members.
  • Strong focus on high-quality software delivery.
  • Experience in Python is required, with additional experience in Golang as a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical experience with Linux system administration.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
