The AppArmor team's primary responsibility is to develop security features and capabilities for AppArmor, the security module protecting all Ubuntu users, by providing mandatory access control to confine programs and restrict their access to system resources. Your work will improve the security of millions of people. You will engage directly with our community and customers, as well as coordinate efforts across multiple engineering teams and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior levels.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Collaborate actively within the security engineering leadership team.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  • Proven drive, with a record of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing and growing people, demonstrated through prior experience.
  • Organized and able to ensure timely, high-quality results from your team.
  • Professional manner when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  • Proficient in C and have a good understanding of Linux kernel development.
  • Experience working with Linux Security Modules.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software and application security.
  • Solid experience in an agile development environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual learning.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships, and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each).

  • Good understanding of containers and packaging formats.
