Position

We are seeking an Engineering Manager for Ceph & Distributed Storage to assist in managing the challenges of increasing data storage demands by making Ceph easy to install, manage, and use across various environments.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibilities will be to lead and develop a team of engineers, ensure sound software architecture, and uphold best practices in software quality and documentation. You will foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with Canonical's values, advance agile software development practices, and support your team's professional growth through mentoring and feedback.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team focused on building a Ceph distributed storage solution.
  • Manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop your team through coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to engineering goals and demonstrate sound engineering principles.
  • Set and manage reasonable project schedules with feedback loops for improvements.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a culture of quality and engineering excellence.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team and engage in strategic discussions.
  • Work remotely with global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.

Who You Are:

  • You have a software engineering background, preferably with Python and C++ experience.
  • You have operational experience with scalable storage clusters on Linux, ideally with Ceph in production environments.
  • You are passionate about new technologies and developing others.
  • You have experience leading and mentoring software developers in delivering high-quality software.
  • You enjoy building products that enhance software and infrastructure operations.
  • You are knowledgeable about software development within an agile environment.
