The Data Platform team is responsible for a wide range of data stores and technologies, including big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, and analytics, as well as structured SQL engines like PostgreSQL and MySQL. The team focuses on delivering fault-tolerant mission-critical distributed systems and the world's best data platform.

We are seeking technical Engineering Managers to lead teams that focus on Big Data and MySQL databases. The position involves coding in Python and implementing modern operational practices for data applications at scale on Kubernetes and cloud machines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud environments.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to team members.
  • Contribute code directly and demonstrate sound engineering skills when necessary.
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices and promote a culture of quality and engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the organization.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A software engineering background, preferably with experience in Python and Golang.
  • Experience running in production and at scale, ideally with Big Data or MySQL.
  • Strong judgment regarding team members' motivations and developmental needs.
  • Proven track record in building high-quality open-source software and driving good engineering practices.
  • Open-mindedness towards new technologies and ambition to enhance software and infrastructure operations.
  • A passion for developing talent and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Specialist knowledge in Spark, Superset, MySQL, or similar technologies.
  • Prior experience with open source and community-focused product development.
