We are hiring an Engineering Manager for IAM to build high-performing Go and Python services and secure identity and access management solutions utilized across all company products, including Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, and MAAS.

This position offers a unique opportunity for a software engineering manager passionate about distributed systems operations to help transform the future of identity management at Canonical. While experience in the identity and access management (IAM) field is desirable, it is not required. You will collaborate with upstream open source projects and internal teams to deliver high-quality software deployable on bare metal, public cloud, and Kubernetes.

As the identity team engineering manager, you will leverage your software development experience, Kubernetes knowledge, and a keen eye for software design, performance, and security. Responsibilities include defining the technical vision for products, managing the team backlog, conducting code reviews, and mentoring team members. You will be involved in all aspects of the software development process, including software design, coding, writing tests, documentation, and troubleshooting.

In this role, you will also collaborate with industry-leading teams at Canonical, ensuring robust data stores and observability via our Kubernetes-based Observability stack, while engaging with broader open source communities.

Work Conditions:

  • The role is remote, based in the EMEA or AMER regions.
  • Opportunity to travel internationally twice a year for company events, lasting up to two weeks long.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven experience in hiring and leading a high-performance software engineering team.
  • Proficiency in Go and Python software development.
  • Ability to design and implement complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience with container technology and Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of software infrastructure security and performance.
  • Familiarity with designing and/or operating large scale distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management technologies and standards is desirable but not essential.
  • Exceptional academic track record with a technical undergraduate degree or a compelling alternative narrative.
