Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to expand the MAAS ("Metal as a Service") team. MAAS provides the best solution for building and managing private bare-metal infrastructure, offering a cloud-style API for physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a distributed team of engineers, focusing on talent development through coaching and mentoring, setting expectations with other teams, and advocating for modern software development practices. The successful candidate will have a solid technical background, deep knowledge of Linux, and experience solving challenging distributed systems problems.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time, Work-from-anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas
  • Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a distributed team of engineers in your time zone.
  • Managing talent development through coaching, mentoring, and career planning.
  • Setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocating for and advancing modern software development practices.
  • Participating in the engineering process with code and architectural reviews.
  • Engaging with broader teams, the open-source community, and partners.
  • Traveling to global events for 4 to 6 weeks per year.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject.
  • Confidence to share ideas and provide feedback.
  • Proven leadership skills and commitment to mentorship.
  • Passion for technology demonstrated through personal projects.
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and K8s.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and Go.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Typescript using modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Svelte, or Vue.
