We are seeking an Engineering Manager to redefine the embedded Linux experience with our secure and reliable operating system tailored for the IoT market. This role presents a unique opportunity for a technical leader who is passionate about open-source software, Linux, and developer experience to influence the future of Linux on a variety of systems, from small devices to desktops.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of talented software developers in designing and implementing Ubuntu Core system software across different CPU architectures, such as ARM, RISC-V, and X86. Your responsibilities will include prioritizing project requests, planning the roadmap, and ensuring the team meets its objectives while cultivating a collaborative work culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a distributed engineering team through hiring, coaching, and career development.
  • Contribute directly to team goals through sound engineering principles.
  • Mentor team members and support their career development.
  • Manage expectations with engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and advance modern, agile software practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other organizational leaders to enhance engineering culture.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in embedded software development.
  • Proficiency in Golang, C++, and Shell scripting.
  • Strong understanding of Linux and modern GNU/Linux distributions (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Proven track record in developing and mentoring team members.
  • Experience in planning and delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Solid background in agile development practices.
  • Exceptional academic record in a technical discipline or compelling alternative path.
  • Professional written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with immutable Linux distributions, preferably Ubuntu Core.
  • Experience with multiple CPU architectures (ARM, RISC-V).
  • Knowledge of Linux native containerization and security.

Language Requirements:
Professional written and spoken English is required.
