The successful candidate will be passionate about the future of Ubuntu, understand the dynamics of the open-source ecosystem, and be aware of the needs of large, innovative customers. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a leader dedicated to fostering strong teams, open-source software, and the Ubuntu ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
- Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team
- Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate for and advance modern, agile software development practices
- Cultivate a healthy and collaborative engineering culture in alignment with company values
- Participate in code and architectural reviews
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and commercial partners
- Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family
- Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features
Who You Are:
- Experience in developing and growing teams with a strong track record
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
- 3+ years of experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
- Experience managing distributed teams is a plus
- Strong focus on success and delivering timely, high-quality software
- Familiarity with agile development environments
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
- Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, preferably Debian or Ubuntu
- Practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
