In this position, you will manage the team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. Ubuntu is committed to providing the latest and best free software components in a user-friendly and reliable manner. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Ubuntu’s future, have an understanding of the open-source ecosystem, and be aware of the requirements of large, innovative clients.

This role represents a valuable opportunity for a leader with a strong interest in team building, open source software, and Ubuntu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to outline the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and the team.
  • Manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Promote modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Engage with Canonical teams, the open-source community, and commercial partners.
  • Oversee quality assurance of the Ubuntu Server image family.
  • Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features.

Who You Are:

  • You have a genuine passion for developing and mentoring people, with a strong track record.
  • You possess knowledge and enthusiasm for software development.
  • You have 3+ years of experience leading and coaching software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
  • You are results-oriented and focused on delivering high quality software on time.
  • You have experience in an agile development environment.
  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • You have experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
  • You possess practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.

Compensation and Benefits:
