In the role of Engineering Manager for the Ubuntu Server Distribution, you will manage the delivery of Ubuntu Server to a wide customer base, focusing on reliable and user-friendly software built on the excellence of Debian. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Ubuntu and the dynamics of the open source ecosystem, while being aware of the needs of large, innovative clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team.
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Participate in engineering process improvements through code and architectural review.
  • Engage with Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners.
  • Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family and plan features for Ubuntu Server.

Who You Are:

  • You have a strong track record in developing and growing team members.
  • Passionate about software development, with 3+ years of experience in managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers—experience with distributed teams is a plus.
  • Focused on delivering timely, high-quality software with experience in agile development.
  • Possess a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Have strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
  • Experience with modern GNU/Linux distributions, preferably Debian or Ubuntu, and practical knowledge of at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
