Our teams meet two to four times per year in diverse locations to align on strategy and execution. In this pivotal role, you will manage the team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution globally. Ubuntu aims to provide the latest and best free software components in an easy-to-use and reliable format. With a focus on technical excellence and the needs of innovative customers, we seek a leader who is passionate about open source software and the future of Ubuntu. Key Responsibilities: - Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers. - Foster talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development. - Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team. - Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. - Advocate modern, agile software development practices and promote great engineering organizational practices. - Cultivate a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values. - Participate actively in the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization. - Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners. - Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family. - Plan and deliver features for Ubuntu Server. - Work from home with possible global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events. Who You Are: - Experienced in developing and growing talent, with a strong track record. - Passionate about software development with a minimum of 3 years' experience in managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus. - Focused on success and timely delivery of high-quality software. - Familiar with agile development environments. - Hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field. - Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English. - Experienced with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, with a preference for Debian or Ubuntu. - Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
