Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux distribution on both cloud and bare metal. Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu.
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate and promote modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Engage with Canonical teams, the open source community, and commercial partners.
  • Oversee the quality and features of the Ubuntu Server image family.
  • Participate in strong engineering processes through code and architectural reviews.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time, remote position with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
  • Distributed work environment with team sprints held in person twice a year.

Who You Are:

  • Passionate about developing and growing team members with a strong track record in doing so.
  • Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about software development.
  • 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
  • Focused on successful delivery of high-quality software in an agile development environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
  • Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
  • Practical experience with at least one of the following: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
