This position is ideal for a leader passionate about strong teams, open source software, and Ubuntu. You will be building a rewarding and meaningful career while collaborating with some of the best and brightest in technology at Canonical, a growing international software company.
Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Collaborate with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu.
- Effectively manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Advocate for and advance modern, agile software development practices.
- Promote great engineering and organizational practices while fostering a healthy, collaborative culture.
- Participate as an active member of the leadership team.
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open-source community, and commercial partners.
- Oversee the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family and plan/deliver server features.
- Work from home with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
Who You Are:
- Passionate about developing and growing your team, with a strong track record.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
- 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
- Committed to delivering high-quality software on time.
- Experience in an agile development environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar discipline.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with a modern GNU/Linux distribution (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
