We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate with various teams, including product managers and engineering teams, to deliver reliable, scalable, and engaging user experiences for Canonical products. Your primary responsibility will be to support and develop your team of web engineers, ensuring they grow, contribute valuable work, and enjoy their experience at Canonical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing directly to your team's goals.
  • Estimate work, set goals, and meet them.
  • Design and implement well-tested and documented software in web technologies or Flutter.
  • Debug and fix issues encountered by your users.
  • Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews.
  • Collaborate with the community and colleagues on technical specifications.
  • Contribute to technical documentation to enhance quality.
  • Seek improvements in engineering and operations practices.
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Contribute to product success through technical advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about web and software development.
  • Values soft skills and shows passion, enterprise, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university; an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM is preferred.
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality web technologies.
  • Passion for and experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter.
  • Familiarity with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a result-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events for up to two weeks each.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with container technology such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • REST API design, development, and governance.
  • Performance engineering and security experience.
