We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to work collaboratively across various teams, including product managers and engineering teams, to deliver reliable and scalable user experiences for Canonical products. As an Engineering Manager, your primary focus will be on the growth and well-being of your team, ensuring they are engaged with valuable work and developing their skills as web engineers. Your role will involve leading a team of strong engineers, facilitating technical delivery, and influencing company culture alongside strategy and execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to team goals through sound engineering principles.
  • Estimate work, set goals, and achieve them.
  • Design and implement well-tested, documented software in Web technologies or Flutter.
  • Debug and fix user-reported issues.
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews.
  • Collaborate on technical specifications and documentation.
  • Seek improvements to engineering and operational practices.
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Advocate for the success of your product through technical support.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about web and software development.
  • Strong soft skills with a passion for teamwork and self-motivation.
  • Exceptional academic track record in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Drive and a successful history of exceeding expectations.
  • Experience in designing and writing high-quality web technologies.
  • Proficiency in Typescript, React, or Flutter.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills.
  • Familiarity with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Ability to travel for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Background in REST API design and development.
  • Knowledge of performance engineering and security.
