We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to work collaboratively with product managers and engineering teams, delivering reliable, scalable, and delightful user experiences for users of Canonical products. Your primary responsibility as an Engineering Manager is to support and grow your team of web engineers while ensuring they are engaged and productive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate sound engineering principles with direct contributions to your team's goals.
- Estimate work, set goals, and achieve them.
- Design and implement well-tested and documented software using Web technologies or Flutter.
- Debug and resolve user issues.
- Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews.
- Collaborate on technical specifications and contribute to technical documentation.
- Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices.
- Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
- Advocate for the success of your product through technical means.
What We Are Looking For:
- Knowledgeable and passionate about web and software development.
- Valuing soft skills, being passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated.
- An exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
- Well-organized, self-starting, and able to meet deadlines.
- Professional manner in interactions with colleagues and the community.
- Experience in designing high-quality Web technologies and the use of Typescript, React, or Flutter.
- Familiarity with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu).
- Excellent written and spoken English, interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Passion and self-motivation with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks each.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- REST API design, development, and governance experience.
- Performance engineering and security experience.
