As part of your responsibilities, you might need to investigate discrepancies between gateway settlements and ledger records, determine the logic for transaction status (match, flag, or escalation), and automate processes that traditionally take hours. This is a critical time for our growth, with our reconciliation engine already operational on our data platform, an ERP migration in progress, and an increasing goal of automating Finance operations. This position does not involve accounting or traditional bank reconciliation; instead, you will analyze high volumes of transaction data across various systems to identify discrepancies and implement necessary changes in products or processes.

The ideal candidate is a data-driven problem solver with a natural curiosity, dedicated to understanding and resolving financial discrepancies. Success in this role will come from asking insightful questions, verifying data accuracy, and articulating findings clearly so that Product and Engineering teams can act upon them.

Responsibilities

  • Own the operational reconciliations end to end, ensuring that transaction-level data from product ledgers, payment gateways, acquirers, and settlement reports is accurately matched.
  • Manage the daily operation of our reconciliation engine: monitor outputs, query underlying data to identify root causes of discrepancies (such as timing cut-offs, FX, duplicates, reversals, and missing settlements), and collaborate with Ops, Product, and Engineering to resolve issues.
  • Define and refine the exception logic for what qualifies as a match, a flag, or an escalation, as well as integrate new product flows into the reconciliation process.
  • Automate manual reconciliations and Finance processes utilizing SQL and our data platform.
  • Create and manage the Finance dashboard used by leadership, tracking essential metrics like cash flow, burn rate, runway, and managerial P&L; automate the weekly burn tracker.
  • Establish common definitions for revenue, TPV, rebates, and chargebacks across systems, collaborating with the Data team to ensure seamless data integration for payroll, Ops, gateway, and bank data within our ERP.
  • Ensure that reconciled data is effectively integrated into month-end close and our new ERP, working closely with our Accounting team.
  • Document the Finance data, integrations, and reconciliation logic to enhance team understanding and ensure future scalability.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you likely have:

  • 3–5 years of experience as a data analyst or in analytics, BI, or operations analytics roles, particularly with high-volume transaction data, preferably in fintech, payments, banking, or marketplaces. A finance or accounting background is not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in SQL with the ability to independently write complex queries, including joins, window functions, and reconciling datasets from multiple sources.
  • A natural investigative mindset to explore and understand discrepancies, ensuring data accuracy through verification against secondary sources.
  • The capability to clearly convey how each number is derived, including assumptions and limitations.
  • Experience building or maintaining reports, data models, or dashboards relied on by others, with an understanding of what constitutes trustworthy data.
  • The ability to quickly identify manual tasks that can be automated, coupled with a strong desire to implement efficiencies.
  • Excellent writing skills to articulate problems and solutions concisely and clearly for immediate action by others.
  • Strong relational skills to foster collaboration across teams, particularly with Ops, Product, and Engineering.
  • Availability to work in or relocate to the UAE.

What Would Amaze Us

  • Practical experience with payment flows such as gateways, acquirers, settlements, wallets, refunds, and chargebacks.
  • Experience in building or managing reconciliation or matching processes on transaction data.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for automation and data tasks.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Metabase, Looker, Mode, or equivalent, along with experience using Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses.
  • A proven track record of transforming manual processes into automated, self-sustaining workflows.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering or Product teams on data or systems projects.
  • Exposure to month-end close processes, ERP systems, or ERP migrations.
