As the Financial Controller for Bermuda Operations, you will report directly to the Bermuda Chief Financial Officer. Your primary responsibilities will include legal entity financial reporting, statutory and regulatory reporting, internal control oversight, and audit coordination. You will ensure timely, accurate, and well-controlled reporting under applicable GAAP and Bermuda regulations, collaborating with various finance and business stakeholders to support finance transformation and process improvement projects aligning with global standards.

What You Will Do

  • Statutory and Regulatory Reporting: Lead and coordinate the preparation and review of annual and quarterly materials for submissions to the Bermuda Monetary Authority and other regulatory bodies, including statutory financial statements and associated reports.
  • Financial Reporting and Close: Collaborate with the Legal Entity Reporting & Compliance team to review annual and quarterly US GAAP financial statements for Bermuda legal entities, including reporting, analytical reviews, and supporting schedules.
  • Board and Management Reporting: Prepare and deliver clear and insightful financial reporting packages, management reports, and Board materials for senior leadership.
  • Internal Controls and Governance: Oversee and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring compliance with RGA standards and Bermuda governance expectations.
  • Audit Management: Support external audit activities, including planning, information requests, and management representation support, ensuring timely completion of audited financial statements.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with local and global teams within Legal Entity Reporting & Compliance and other departments to streamline reporting and resolve technical accounting and regulatory issues.
  • Finance Projects and Process Improvement: Lead or assist with finance projects that enhance reporting, controls, and process efficiency.
  • People and Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to finance team members, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Other Duties: Maintain regular attendance, stay updated on relevant developments, and perform various assigned duties.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • Professional accounting qualifications (CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent).
  • 7+ years of experience in public accounting, insurance, audit, or financial reporting.
  • 5+ years of prior regulatory reporting experience within Bermuda’s insurance/reinsurance sector.
  • 3+ years in a financial reporting role for a Bermuda-registered Class D or Class E Long Term Insurer or Reinsurer.
  • Familiarity with preparing materials for Board, management, or regulatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of internal control frameworks over financial reporting.
  • Advanced understanding of accounting, financial reporting, and Bermuda Monetary Authority requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Experience with relevant reporting or workflow tools (e.g., PeopleSoft, OneStream).
  • Demonstrated accountability and integrity in financial practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls frameworks.
  • Experience leading finance projects or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Prior people management or leadership experience.
  • Experience presenting to Board or Senior Executive meetings.
  • Knowledge of life, health, or annuity insurance products.
  • Understanding of Bermuda’s Economic Substance rules and reporting requirements.
