This position is physically located in Kuwait in support of WEXMAC and requires residency and authorization to work in Kuwait. The role involves responding as a crew leader of a fire department crew to save lives, provide first aid, and preserve property, the environment, and mission functions. Responsibilities include mitigating hazards during fires and leading medical emergencies, hazmat incidents, technical rescues, natural disasters, and aircraft accidents.

Responsibilities

  • A Fire Lieutenant acts as a work leader (crew chief) responsible for directing and participating in the work of a firefighting crew.
  • Directs the crew in firefighting activities, following specific orders from higher-level supervisors at the scene.
  • Directs and participates in practice drills and training classes for the assigned crew.
  • Oversees fire protection inspection functions and assigns crew members to maintenance work such as equipment cleaning.
  • Prepares reports for the supervisor concerning fire runs, training, inspections, or other related topics.
  • Takes charge of firefighting activities in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Conducts recurrent proficiency training and on-the-job training (OJT). Applies industry standards and accepted trade practices during emergency incidents.
  • Attends mandatory training, instructs classes as required, and participates in the DoD Firefighter Certification Program and physical fitness programs.
  • Exercises caution to prevent personal injury and property damage and ensures compliance with the NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Programs.
  • Conducts fire risk management surveys and company inspections.
  • Provides fire safety training and education to the community, soldiers, and other members.
  • Communicates effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and thoroughly understands Fire Department policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Captain or Assistant Fire Chief.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years of full-time experience as a paid firefighter. An Associate Degree or higher in Fire Science preferred.
    • Must meet training and certification requirements outlined in DoD Manual 6055.06.
    • Required certifications from IFSAC, Pro-Board, or DoD include:
      • Fire Officer I
      • Fire Instructor I
      • Fire Inspector I
      • D/O Pumper
      • D/O ARFF
      • D/O MWS
      • D/O Aerial (Preferred)
      • Hazardous Material Incident Commander (Preferred)
      • HazMat Technician (Preferred)
      • Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF)
      • Emergency Medical Responder or equivalent with a current CPR card (EMT Preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Ability to demonstrate firefighter knowledge and skills in a professional manner.
    • Ability to work effectively with employees and management personnel at all levels, including multinational staff and military officials.
    • Strong professional discretion and good judgment.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Strong computer skills in MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-Outlook.
  • Supervisory/Budget Responsibilities:
    • Manages a large department with multiple geographically dispersed fire stations and a substantial personnel count. Assists in training firefighters and managing fire apparatus, as well as planning facility improvements.
  • Material & Equipment Directly Used:
    • Motorized firefighting apparatus, tools, ladders, equipment, and systems, along with personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, and other general office equipment.
  • Working Environment:
    • General operational and office environment in Kuwait. May require working uncommon hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Subject to extreme hot and dusty weather conditions. Must meet physical fitness requirements to be deemed fit for duty and will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Physical Activities:
    • Must be physically fit for duty and able to wear PPE (e.g., helmet, body armor, fire-retardant clothing). Must have agility and strength to lift, hoist, and carry 100 pounds or more.
