As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer, you will engage in hands-on coding while collaborating with partner technical teams and end users to accurately identify their needs. You will be responsible for designing and building comprehensive solutions, including architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment. You will have a direct impact on mission-critical systems used by allied forces, and you’ll quickly see the real-world implications of your work. Following deployment, you’ll collaborate with the core platform team to integrate the durable components into the broader product, ensuring that your contributions continue to be valuable.

Responsibilities
- Design and build software applications that solve specific operational problems for our partners, owning them end-to-end from architecture through deployment.
- Take loosely defined, real-world requirements from partner militaries and organizations and translate them into functional software, often on tight timelines.
- Build interfaces and connectors between our platforms and partner systems, validating data flows end-to-end in the field.
- Deploy solutions on site, gather feedback directly from operators, and iterate quickly based on practical observations.
- Identify patterns and capabilities worth building into the core product, collaborating with the platform engineering team to facilitate this integration.
- Debug issues in live operational settings, drive these to resolution, and document insights gained throughout the process.
- Develop strong working relationships with client technical teams and end users to gain a deep understanding of their challenges and deliver effective solutions.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in building and shipping production software, using Python and at least one lower-level language (C++, Rust, or Go).
- Proven track record of defining and building end-to-end systems through projects, internships, or early-career experiences where you took an ambiguous problem and delivered a working, deployed solution.
- Comfortable owning the entire software lifecycle — design, build, debug, and deploy — particularly in Linux environments under operational or field conditions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage client technical teams and senior stakeholders effectively, exhibiting a bias towards action.
- Ability to work under constraints, prioritizing practical solutions amidst ill-defined problems and tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel frequently on-site with partners, both domestically and internationally.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or customer-facing engineering roles.
- Depth of knowledge in computer vision, deep learning, mission planning, robotics, or embedded software.
- Degree from a leading engineering school.
