We are hiring a GitOps Engineering Manager to take on a world-class DevOps and GitOps engineering management challenge. This role combines operations management, software engineering, product development, and team leadership into a single high-value position. The candidate should be an expert in Linux and operations while also being a capable manager of high-performance teams.

Our mission is to pioneer and prove superior approaches to large-scale infrastructure services. This role will support Canonical and Ubuntu operations and will contribute to shaping Canonical's managed application service offerings, enhancing the standards for DevOps and cloud-native operations. We aim to automate processes that support our business and share this automation as open-source packages for others to leverage in their operations.

Our teams work across the full stack, including bare metal to Kubernetes, as well as various infrastructure environments ranging from public and private clouds to edge computing. We have fully distributed, home-based teams spread across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. The GitOps Engineering Manager will lead a team in their time zone and report to a global director.

Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote, with potential travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks long)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily agile DevOps practices within the team
  • Represent the Infrastructure Services team to stakeholders, customers, and internal teams
  • Organize, coordinate, and drive internal projects
  • Mentor engineers to enhance their skills
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement structured engineering and operations processes
  • Ensure the team focuses on priorities, milestones, and deliverables
  • Work to meet service level agreements for customer deployments worldwide
  • Deliver quality managed services consistently and timely

Qualifications:

  • Drive and a proven track record of exceeding expectations
  • Experience in software delivery using infrastructure as code
  • Proven experience managing DevOps teams for SaaS or similar offerings
  • Understanding of testing methodologies and maintainable code quality
  • Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems
  • Experience with cloud topologies and technologies
  • Commitment to travel for company events as required
  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Ubuntu system administration
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
  • Experience working in and managing distributed teams
