Global Lead Engineer (Backend) - Assisted Channels Squad

The Global Lead Engineer (Backend) - Assisted Channels Squad is responsible for delivering and maintaining IT applications and services to realize the Mashreq strategy in the field of information technology. Engineers in this role are responsible for the technical aspects of projects and features, working closely with the Group Product Owner and Chapter Lead. They also govern the engineers across all countries involved within their squad's deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Use backend technical expertise to contribute to backend engineering excellence across Engineers in the Squad.
• Work with Designated Principal Engineers to ensure optimal engineering outcomes in terms of reusability, optimization, testability, readability, and performance of code.
• Develop IT products, perform unit tests in accordance with customer wishes and internal ambitions, and review colleagues’ IT products.
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams to deploy and maintain conversational AI stacks and microservices.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and performance of backend systems supporting AI workloads.

Requirements

• Excellent programming/coding skills in Java, with knowledge of Kotlin as a plus.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and databases like Postgres, MySQL, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• At least 8 years of software development experience, ideally in Agile teams.
• Hands-on experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into backend workflows, including prompt engineering and model optimization.
• Community contributions, like open-source work, is a plus.
