Golang Engineer

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for our platform, Ubuntu. We are seeking Golang engineers of all levels of seniority to join our teams. This role is essential for developing and maintaining high-quality software using Golang, particularly focusing on performance and security. The successful candidate will be working in a fully remote environment, contributing to the delivery of innovative open-source solutions globally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Go.
• Debug and fix issues encountered by users.
• Participate in code and architectural reviews.
• Collaborate with the community and colleagues on technical specifications.
• Seek improvements to engineering and operational practices.
• Deploy and operate services developed by the team when required.
• Advocate for your product's technical success.

Requirements:

• Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or a compelling alternative narrative.
• Experience designing and writing high-quality Golang software on Linux.
• Passion for and experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Professional written and spoken English.
• For senior roles: experience with distributed systems and APIs.

Working Conditions:

• Fully remote position with the ability to work across various time zones.
• Requires travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each.
• Collaborate in a distributed work environment with team sprints held bi-annually in person.

Additional Skills (Nice-to-have):

• Experience developing for Ubuntu Linux.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro.
• Performance engineering and security experience.
