Key Accountabilities:
- Provide strategic, effective, reliable, and user-friendly support, advice, and assistance to senior managers within the organization on legal matters affecting any aspect of the business across the Ports & Terminals pillar.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of legal documents including joint venture agreements, management services agreements, concession agreements, terminal services agreements, strategic customer framework agreements, standard terms and conditions, internal policies and procedures, and ancillary agreements, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Identify and analyze legal issues arising in transactions and new projects, primarily related to ports and terminals. Make clear and commercially focused recommendations regarding such issues and support the transactions and projects from a legal perspective through to implementation.
- Provide legal guidance to the network of ports & terminals businesses and related support functions on regulatory, commercial, and contentious matters that may have cross-regional or global implications.
- Maintain strong relationships with external legal counsel; assist in selecting appropriate counsel for outsourced work and manage external legal spending for projects under direct responsibility.
- Advise the business on developing legal knowhow, including contract templates, playbooks, approval matrices, and contracting processes and policies in the Ports & Terminals pillar to ensure a harmonized, effective, and risk-mitigated contracting process in dealings with customers, partners, and host governments.
- Act as a liaison between commercial colleagues from the Corporate Finance & Business Development department and external legal counsel, providing clear instructions and overseeing work done by counsel.
- Provide effective reporting to the Group Vice-President Legal (Ports & Terminals) on all material legal matters impacting the pillar.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Law Degree from an accredited university.
- Qualification to practice law from a recognized legal regulatory body.
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in an internationally recognized law firm and/or multinational company, with a preference for experience in the Middle East region.
- Knowledge of cross-border corporate and commercial transactions, with experience managing transactions to completion, preferably including international infrastructure projects.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of business needs, with sensitivity to differing international legal and cultural practices and the ability to work within diverse cultural environments.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong negotiation skills for legal issues and transaction documentation.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
