Head of Research and Design

About the Role
The company is building the future of B2B commerce for the agentic era, where buyers, sellers, and agents interact and transact across every channel. We are looking for a Head of Research and Design who possesses foresight into this evolution and is eager to lead a team and product toward this vision. You will drive the research and design initiatives from the front, establishing frameworks and methods that empower the team to create commerce products tailored for an agentic world.

What You’ll Own

• The Team and the Direction: Lead the research and design team to define and execute a vision for an AI-native product and agentic commerce experience that engages buyers and sellers. Your involvement will set high standards in work delivery.
• The End-to-End Experience: Oversee the entire user journey, ensuring a cohesive product experience that builds trust and performance, integrating key moments that enhance user interaction.
• Agentic Experience Design: Design interactions that reflect agent behaviors and elements such as transparency and control, adapting to conversational and headless transaction interfaces.
• An AI-Native Design System: Create a machine-readable and token-driven design system that sustains high fidelity and consistent output, minimizing manual maintenance.
• The Research Agenda: Guide the team in exploring industry trends related to agentic commerce and evolving buyer/seller behaviors. Determine future directions based on existing research.
• The Craft Bar: Establish high standards for design fidelity and quality, ensuring that a lean team can maintain these standards at pace.

Qualifications
What You’ll Bring:

• Proven experience in building AI-powered or agentic products with demonstrable examples of your contributions to products, prototypes, or agents.
• A strong portfolio of commercially shipped products that highlights your impact on user satisfaction and business outcomes.
• Experience leading both product design and user research while being hands-on in designing, prototyping, and researching.
• Ability to leverage user, market, and industry research to inform product direction and develop clear product and experience visions.
• Practical AI fluency in the research and design process, including the development of AI-driven design systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing designers and researchers in collaboration with product management and other tech disciplines.
• Background in e-commerce is highly preferred, particularly with B2B commerce and complex buyer/seller journeys.
