Head of Research and Design

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Research and Design who can lead our team and product into this future. In this role, you will own the vision of how commerce products are built and experienced, leveraging your research to sharpen our approach and bringing in the essential frameworks, standards, and methodologies required for success. You will actively lead the research and design team toward this vision, setting the direction and collaborating closely with them to deliver outstanding results.

What You’ll Be Owning:

• The Team and the Direction: Lead the research and design team to create an AI-native product and an agentic commerce experience. Your hands-on involvement sets the bar for the team.
• The End-to-End Experience: Oversee the entire user experience, ensuring that it is cohesive and trustworthy, transcending beyond isolated interactions.
• Agentic Experience Design: Define how agents behave within the commerce framework and design systems that foster transparency and control in buyer-seller interactions.
• An AI-Native Design System: Develop a machine-readable, token-driven design system that integrates seamlessly with AI tools for consistent, high-fidelity design.
• The Research Agenda: Shape the team’s research focus on the trends in agentic commerce and the evolving landscape of B2B commerce, ensuring the development of insights into trust and privacy in transactions.
• The Craft Bar: Uphold high standards for fidelity and quality while employing efficient methods to maintain speed and relevance in deliverables.

What You’ll Bring:

• Proven experience in building AI-powered or agentic products, with demonstrable examples of your contributions through prototypes and working products.
• A strong portfolio showcasing commercially shipped products that highlight your experience and the measurable impact on users or business outcomes.
• Experience leading both product design and user research, maintaining a hands-on role while overseeing the complete product experience.
• A track record of utilizing user, market, and industry research to define product direction with a clear vision of the experience.
• Practical AI fluency across research and design processes, including the development of AI-friendly design systems.
• Experience in leading and mentoring designers and researchers, establishing standards and direction while collaborating with Product Management and technology teams.
• Preferred experience in e-commerce, particularly in B2B environments, with a focus on complex buyer and seller journeys.
